چکیده

The one-dimensional (1D) Bose gas model of particles interacting via a repulsive delta-function potential is a remarkable system for extending our understanding of the physics of interacting quantum many-body systems. On the one hand, the model is exactly solvable in quantum many-body theory. On the other hand, it is now experimentally realizable with ultra-cold alkali atoms in highly anisotropic trapping potentials. Thus there are outstanding opportunities for accurate tests of theory that were previously unavailable, in turn leading to the development of fundamental knowledge and novel practical applications such as precision measurements.

Dimensional phase transition from an array of 1D Luttinger liquids to a 3D Bose-Einstein condensate.

We study the thermodynamic properties of a 2D array of coupled one-dimensional Bose gases. The system is realized with ultracold bosonic atoms loaded in the potential tubes of a two-dimensional optical lattice. For negligible coupling strength, each tube is an independent weakly interacting 1D Bose gas featuring Tomonaga Luttinger liquid behavior. By decreasing the lattice depth, we increase th...

Phase-fluctuating 3D Bose-Einstein condensates in elongated traps.

We find that in very elongated 3D trapped Bose gases, even at temperatures far below the BEC transition temperature T(c), the equilibrium state will be a 3D condensate with fluctuating phase (quasicondensate). At sufficiently low temperatures the phase fluctuations are suppressed and the quasicondensate turns into a true condensate. The presence of the phase fluctuations allows for extending th...

Non-equilibrium coherence dynamics in one-dimensional Bose gases.

Low-dimensional systems provide beautiful examples of many-body quantum physics. For one-dimensional (1D) systems, the Luttinger liquid approach provides insight into universal properties. Much is known of the equilibrium state, both in the weakly and strongly interacting regimes. However, it remains a challenge to probe the dynamics by which this equilibrium state is reached. Here we present a...

Quantum criticality and the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid in one-dimensional Bose gases.

We experimentally investigate the quantum criticality and Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) behavior within one-dimensional (1D) ultracold atomic gases. Based on the measured density profiles at different temperatures, the universal scaling laws of thermodynamic quantities are observed. The quantum critical regime and the relevant crossover temperatures are determined through the double-peak stru...

Ultracold atomic Fermi-Bose mixtures in bichromatic optical dipole traps: a novel route to study fermion superfluidity

The study of low density, ultracold atomic Fermi gases is a promising avenue to understand fermion superfluidity from first principles. One technique currently used to bring Fermi gases in the degenerate regime is sympathetic cooling through a reservoir made of an ultracold Bose gas. We discuss a proposal for trapping and cooling of two-species Fermi-Bose mixtures into optical dipole traps made...
